Jean-Marie Martin graduated at Paris University, and became Scientific Director at the National Center for Scientific Research and the Ecole normale supérieure. Doctor-ès-Sciences, Doctor “honoris causa” and a member of various foreign academies, he carried out his research on the coastal environment in Europe and around the world, mainly in South-East Asia and in the soviet Arctic ocean. Later, he became Director of the Institute for Environment and Sustainable Development, of the European Commission, at Ispra (Italy). Concurrently, he practiced sculpture and displayed his work, so far, mainly in Italy and Switzerland. His last sculptures have been realized at the “Fornaci Ibis”, located at Cunardo (Varese), those in recycled plastic were made with the support from the MGM enterprise at Castelseprio (Varese).
His artistic work, mainly deals with environmental issues, sustainable development and human rights.
